Our hospital chapel is a place of quiet in the sometimes quite hectic hospital operation. The chapel is open 24-hours a day - for prayer or just for reflection.
We celebrate Holy Communion at 19:00 every Thursday in the hospital's chapel; you are cordially invited.
The chapel is on Ward A2. Should you need help to visit the chapel, please ask at your ward. The nursing staff or the nuns will accompany you then.
The hospital chapel is named after Regina Protmann who lived in Braunsberg / East Prussia from 1552 to 1613 and founded the Order of Congregation of the Sisters of St. Catharine. The absolute novelty at the time was that she did not live in the seclusion of a convent but reached out to the people to be close to them in their time of need. She visited the needy, the sick and the dying in their homes, gathered the children around her and took care of the church's equipment. She gave the community foundation and social direction. The church honoured her by her beatification on June 13, 1999.
Today, the Sisters of St. Catharine work in Germany, Italy, Lithuania, Poland, Belarus, Russia, Brazil, Togo and Cameroon. It is their duty to serve the sick, the elderly, families, kindergartens, schools, the community and provide hospital pastoral care as well as accompany the dying, and remain in dialogue and offer Bible studies. The central foundation of all activities is the spiritual life as a denomination, community life and community of property. Just as Jesus served the people in His lifetime, the Sisters of St. Catherine also want to be there for them.
The Order of Congregation of the Sisters of St. Catharine has been an integral part of the Wilhelmsburg Groß-Sand Hospital and also has a convent here.
